As the Author of the China Marriage and K3 Visa Guide one of the most popular questions I’m often asked is: “After my Chinese spouse arrives in the United States what is the total cost for a marriage in China?” After you are married in China and your spouse enters the U.S. on a K3 Visa, the cost will vary depending on the choices you make and how you proceed. Over the years I have developed many alliances with U.S. Citizens who have successfully married in China and brought a spouse to the U.S. along with those who have filed petitions to bring a fiancee to the U.S. to marry here. Our case studies cover both, with and without the use of an attorney. As we discuss the total cost we need to look at 3 important factors: 1. Legal cost; 2. Transportation; and 3. Filing documents, paperwork and fees. In part one, we’ll look at the legal cost of hiring an attorney.

Marriage in China – Legal Cost of Hiring an Attorney

Many of our readers have been lured to advertisements for immigration attorneys for as little as $500 to $800. Our case studies prove that on average U.S. Citizens hiring an attorney for help bringing their spouse or fiancee to the United States from China will pay $2000 to $2500 to have an attorney fill out their forms and mail them to U.S. Citizens and Immigration Service (USCIS). In one case a gentleman from Wisconsin paid over $5000 dollars. The sad part is, in that case it took his Chinese spouse the longest time to arrive in the United States after his marriage in China, 2 years and 8 months because of mistakes in filing. On the other hand, we have discovered many U.S. Citizens who have filed their own paperwork and their Chinese spouses arrived in the United States in as little as 8 months after receiving a K3 Visa. If you do decide to hire an attorney you will need to talk price up-front. Its best to ask for a flat rate so you know the final cost. If you decide to do your own paperwork and save the money there are U.S. Citizens who have first-hand experience with bringing a spouse from China. You can connect with them on sites like US Visa Toolbox or in forums such as those offered by Travel China Guide.

In the next informative article from US Visa Toolbox we will break down the cost for filing documents and petitions for a marriage in China. We will also look at different ways many U.S. Citizens have saved a bundle of money on traveling to China.

Do you have to travel by air in the near future? If you do, are you a pet owner who needs to bring your pet along with you? Although most of us leave our pets at home, you may not want to do so or your purpose for travel may be to move, as opposed to taking a fun filled vacation. Regardless of your reasons for wanting or needing to travel with your pet or pets, there are a number of important points that you will need to keep in mind.

The first step in traveling with a pet is to make sure that you can do so. Although a good number of airlines will allow pets on their planes, not all will. You may be in a predicament if you plan to depart from a small airport with only one or two airlines. If they do not accept pets or if their rules and restrictions are too much for you to handle, you will want to examine other nearby airports, especially those that are larger in size.

When traveling by air with your pet or pets, it is important to remember that you will be charged an additional fee. Unfortunately, many first time pet travelers believe that they can use their pets and their pet carriers to count towards as a carry-on bag or a checked bag. This isn’t how it works though. You will, almost always, be charged an extra fee for traveling with a pet. This extra fee will likely depend on the airline in question and well as your pet’s location, such as in the cabin or in the baggage compartment.

That leads to another important point. Even with some of the airlines that allow pets, like cats and dogs, aboard their flights, not all allow pets to be in the cabin with other passengers. This is particularly common on small planes where allergies may be a big concern. If you cannot part with your pet, be sure to search for an airline that will allow you to keep him or her in the cabin with you. With that said, remember that the size of your pet will also play a huge factor in your options.

Regardless of where your pet is stored for the plane ride, you will need to have a pet carrier or crate for them. Many airlines have specific rules and restrictions on what type can be used. Resections often include materials used, as well as size. Most will provide you with that information when asked. Speaking of pet crates and carriers, it is important to make sure that you give your pet enough room to stand and move around a little bit. In fact, most airlines will refuse to transport pets that they feel are unsafe from small pet crates and carriers.

It is also important to make sure that you get your pet checked by their vet. You will want to make sure that your pet has all required vaccinations and that they are fit for travel. Also, all airlines require that you receive a health certificate, which will state that your pet is healthy and safe for travel.

The above mentioned points are just a few of the many that you will want to take into consideration when traveling with a pet. Added tips include booking direct flights, making sure your pet’s collar is marked with the proper identification, as well as their pet carrier.

The honeymoon never really needs to be over. When you visit a tropical paradise on that first trip together, you’ll have memories to last a lifetime-and you’ll be hooked on sitting on the beach, enjoying the warm waters, and sampling the sumptuous cuisines of Asia. You’ll go back for your second honeymoon, your third, your fourth, and on your 50th wedding anniversary. The honeymoon never ends when you choose a tropical paradise to start out your lives together.

Whether you’re planning a June wedding or a December one, the honeymoon resorts in places like Bali, the Maldives, or the tropical paradise island of Phuket, Thailand will accommodate with warm weather year-round.

Honeymoons to fit any budget

When you choose an Asian destination for your special honeymoon trip, you can always find something to suit your budget. You’ll have at your disposal the full range of amenities and resorts, from luxurious, five-star spas with staff that will cater to your every need, to a low-budget backpacking trek through Southeast Asia, and everything in between. Affordable and comfortable hotels are easy to find in most popular Asian destinations, and if you’re in the mood for roughing it, it’s not too hard to find a “guest house”, hostel or basic room for as little as a few dollars a night.

What to do on your honeymoon in paradise

Besides the obvious, you’ll have plenty to do while you’re on your trip. You can enjoy one of the magnificent spas, explore ancient temples, and sample new and delicious foods that you’ve never before seen. Food is after all, the heart of romance, and there are few things more exciting-and intimate-than sharing an exotic meal in a tropical country.

And of course, there’s nothing like a few days at a quaint beach resort, enjoying the warm tropical water and clean, white sand. You can spend your afternoon frolicking in the Andaman Sea or on the banks of the mighty Mekong River, then stroll down the beach to a comfy seat under the shade while attendants bring you a drink served in a coconut shell. And when your muscles grow weary from all those long walks on the beach-or whatever other activities may take a toll on you-you can enjoy a therapeutic massage together to rejuvenate your mind and body so you’ll be ready for more.

You’ll find that Asia is a prime honeymoon destination for newlyweds the world over, and it’s easy to see why. Places like Maldives, Nepal, India, and Thailand are without a doubt some of the most romantic destinations on earth, and while there, you’ll find that hoteliers, restaurateurs, and tour package operators enjoy catering to your special needs with very specialized and romantic getaway trips.

Honeymoon planning

Like any trip, a honeymoon takes some advance planning. Once you’ve decided on your itinerary, do some research on plane fares, and decide on the best time to leave. You don’t have to leave right after the wedding–you can save big money often by waiting a few days and leaving mid-week. Be sure to take a detailed look at the many honeymoon vacation packages available, and compare not only the price, but the details as well. The cheapest one may not necessarily be the best deal. And just a small detail-ladies, you may want to avoid confusion at immigration, and book your tickets under your maiden name, since that will be the name on your passport unless you’ve changed it already.

And while planning ahead of time is essential, don’t be afraid to be spontaneous. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll be able to encounter many spectacular wonders that weren’t in the guidebook, such as the delightful little sidewalk restaurant by your hotel, the stunning wilderness just outside of town, or the elephant ride through the jungle. Deviate from your plans once in a while and prepare to be delighted.

A Few Honeymoon Suggestions

There are hundreds of prime destinations that you’ll enjoy as newlyweds, and you may even want to incorporate more than one into your itinerary. Here’s five of Asia.com’s favorite honeymoon destinations just to get you started:

Bali, Indonesia.
This scenic destination is without a doubt one of the most prized destinations for honeymooners. The majestic, natural beauty of Bali has drawn people the world over since the days of old. You’ll find plenty of adventure on your trip to Bali, including trekking through the jungle and enjoying a look under the water with scuba gear. You can rent a room, a suite, or an entire villa, enjoy the pristine beach, and the company of the friendly Balinese people for an exciting and relaxing trip that you’ll want to repeat time and time again.

Maldives.
If you’re looking for tropical paradise, then this is it. The quintessential romantic getaway, Maldives features coral reefs, sand and sea amidst a tropical setting, excellent opportunities for scuba diving or snorkeling, and long walks on the beach. The colorful sea life underwater is simply amazing, and the resorts and spas will deliver an experience to remember.

Phuket, Thailand.
The largest of several islands off the coast of Thailand, Phuket (pronounced poo-ket’) is one of the most common honeymoon hideaways in Southeast Asia, and one of the most pleasing. The beautiful and gentle sea ahs plenty to offer, but the honeymoon doesn’t stop at the island itself. Go to the mainland and explore some of the most breathtaking tropical scenery in the world, and take advantage of some of the trekking opportunities. And needless to say, the Thai food is a paradise within paradise.

Macau, China.
Imagine Vegas multiplied by ten, with a twist of European and Asian culture thrown in for good measure. If you enjoy the excitement of night-life, Macau is the place to go. The casinos there are studies in extravagance, going way beyond just gaming tables, presenting an all-encompassing and complete experience with entertainment, plush hotel rooms, and of course, extravagant shopping opportunities.

Singapore.
Another popular honeymoon destination, this series of islands in Southeast Asia offers several romantic and secluded getaway spots, complete with fashionable and relaxing resort spas. Once you make it out of your hotel room though, you’ll be delighted with the mix of Chinese, Malay, and Hindu cultures there, making Singapore a fascinating melting pot with extravagant cuisine and natural wonders everywhere you turn.

China is one of the most famous ancient civilizations, with a history spanning over 5,000 years. China is the most populated country with a large land mass and abundant resources. China opened up to the world in 1978, joined the world trade organization in 2001 (WTO), and hosting the 2008 Summer Olympic games in Beijing. With a much more open market policy, there’s increasing number of oversea visitors gaining interest in China’s culture, history, scenery, and lifestyle.

There are 56 ethnic groups in China, with the main nationality being the Han composing of 91% of the population. The remaining 9% of the population is made up of the remaining 55 ethnic groups.

The main language is also the Han Language, spoken in all parts of china and in Asia. The Hui and Manchu ethnic groups also speak Han, while the other 53 ethnic groups use their own languages. The Han-Tibetan language is used by 29 ethnic groups, who live mainly in the southern regions of China.

With a more open market policy, and improving standards of living, Chinese citizens have been able to go abroad as tourists since 1997. China has approved 52 countries as tourism destinations. About 20 million Chinese went abroad in 2003 – 14.8 million (about 73% of the total) were private travelers. China is ranked one of the top ten nations for outbound tourism.

Some of the most popular travel tour destination cities in China include:

•	Beijing
•	Shanghai
•	Xian
•	Hong Kong
•	Chongqing
•	Chengdu
•	Harbin
•	Hainan
•	Macao
•	Guilin
•	Nanjing
•	Tianjin
•	Kunming
•	Shenzhen

There’s an old Chinese adage that says: “People view food as the most important”. That pretty much sums up my view on food as well. I love to eat all types of food and cuisine, and I especially enjoy the hot and spicy food of the Szechuan province in China.

China’s food and cuisine has had a long history. The five flavors of spicy, sweet, bitter, sour, and salty has been used in Chinese cooking over 3,000 years ago. Today, traditional Chinese food ranks among the worlds best and most popular. Authentic Chinese cuisine focus on 3 key aspects: taste, color (display), and fragrance, and Chinese cooking is very particular about cutting style and cooking temperature.

The official currency of China is the RMB (RenMinBi), or translated as “the people’s currency”. The basic unit is the Yuan (or kuai), or equivalent to what we call the “dollar” in North America. Next unit down is the “Jiao” (or also “mao”), or “10 cents”. Finally, the smallest unit is the “Fen”, equivalent to our “penny”

“What makes an Asia vacation so special?” That’s what I’ve been asked many times in the last few years. Because, I can’t help it… talk about Asia vacation, and I’m on a roll.

Maybe it’s because I’ve been traveling and vacationing numerous times in Asia in the last five years — my last Asia vacation has actually lasted now for around two years…

…Maybe it’s because some of the Asian countries are really opening up to tourism now, and that of course means there are more opportunities to experience more different cultures, people, historic landmarks, and much more…

…Or maybe it’s because I simply got seduced by the natural beauty, the tropical weather, the variety in the people, and that “exotic something” you find in Asia.

Whatever the case, this is for certain…

If you don’t make the decision to experience an Asia vacation right now, you’re going to do yourself a big disservice.

There are several reasons for treating yourself to an Asia vacation, and here I want to share five of them with you.

Because sometimes you just need to get away from it all. Escape the daily routine for a while. Leave stress and worry behind while you relax somewhere and recharge your battery…

Asia, and in particular Southeast Asia, is becoming a very popular tourist destination. Because in some of the countries you can have it all: a tropical climate all year around, fabulous beaches, exotic and exciting food, rich culture, and best of all, low prices.

Reason 1: Tropical climate

Throughout the year, the temperature in Southeast Asia is around 30 degrees centigrade. The countries around the equator have usually 2 seasons — a wet and a dry one. And even in the “wet” season, you get a lot of sunshine in the mornings with torrential rains in the afternoons. It’s great standing in the rain and getting yourself absolutely soaked. Will you dare…?

Reason 2: White sandy beaches

Many people, when they think of an Asia vacation, think of enjoying the beaches, the sun, the blue sky, and relaxing with a cool drink somewhere. Try the fabulous beaches in Thailand, the Philippines, or Indonesia, especially Bali. Or have an underwater adventure and scuba dive in world-class diving locations in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia or Indonesia. If scuba diving’s not quite your thing, why not try snorkeling and enjoy the fish and corals this way? It’s great fun, keeps you cool, and you stay fit.

Reason 3: Rich heritage

When you’ve had enough of lolling on the beach, soaking up the sun, or saying hello to the fish, you can go and discover the rich heritage and cultural history of the region. Be awed and overwhelmed by the amazing temple complex of Angkor in Siem Reap, Cambodia. The monuments of the old Khmer culture and religion from around the 10th to 15th century AD were slowly reclaimed by the jungle, were rediscovered in the 1860s, and have become one of the great wonders of the world. Other great wonders are the Great Wall of China and the Taj Mahal in India.

Reason 4: Wonderful exotic food

One of the great things for me is the food that I enjoy on an Asia vacation. Sure, you can taste such food at home too, but not in its authentic entirety. Wonderful vegetables, seafood, fish, and meat are all cooked with the unmistakable Asian spices and herbs. What would a curry be without some chilli, lemon grass, ginger, cardamon, and coriander? And to take the heat off it a little, there’s a good helping of coconut milk or cream. Your meal is rounded off with some exquisite tropical fruit such as mango, papaya, pineapple, various sizes and types of banana, watermelon and pomelo, just to mention the more well-known fruits. Or you can enjoy them at breakfast, or at any time of the day.

Reason 5: Low prices

This is of course on of the best reason why an Asia vacation is so popular now. Your budget goes further. Your accommodation, your sightseeing expeditions, your culinary adventures, and of course your souvenir shopping goes much further. You pay a fraction of what you would pay closer to home. Depending on your destination, you can have a luxury 5-star Asia vacation for around 100 USD per day. And you will probably have some cash left over to get yourself pampered with a massage, a facial or a manicure. It doesn’t get much better than this…!

So, next time you’re wondering where to spend your vacation, consider a tropical, exotic and affordable Asia vacation.

Have you ever though about escaping from your daily, boring routine and diving into a fresh new world that you have never experienced before? Did it ever cross your mind that just a few hundred (heh, thousands probably!) miles away you could find the most exotic and colorful bazaar of people, religions and nature? Well, I bet you have thought about that but in most cases your mind would have fantasized about exotic beaches like Miami or the Caribbean isles. Not bad, not at all! However, I have something better to propose, Asia. Yes, if you are seeking for a brand new, shockingly different experience then Asia is the place to go!

Asia is the mother of countless religions, cultures, stories and myths. Each country in Asia has its very unique living style and customs; experiences you might never have if you never leave the boarders of the western world. You should bear in mind that there are lots of countries that you could visit while roaming around Asia. You could be in the most hi-tech country of the world, Japan or you could go to virgin exotic places, never touched by the human kind such as Singapore, Thailand and Laos. Of course, you shouldn’t miss Asia’s big sons, China and India! Sri Lanka is a really good destination if you need to concentrate inside yourself and possibly test your limits.

If you are a fan of sight seeing then you should spend some time in Bangkok and Singapore. You just can’t imagine how beautiful those places are! Apart from sight seeing, you could pay a visit to the Crocodile farm or to one of the Bangkok’s Zoos; you could visit the Thai Human Imagery museum or you could simply relax yourself in spas. In case you are seeking for adventure you could always take a night safari in Singapore and watch all wild animals in action! Of course, there are countless other interesting things to do but wouldn’t it be cooler if you discovered them by yourself?

Hong Kong is an eclectic mix of Chinese and British influences mixed with a massive amount of adrenaline. Fortunately, you can find places to stay when visiting Hong Kong without much problem.

Finding Places to Stay When Visiting Hong Kong

Hong Kong is both a modern and ancient city. First appearances reveal a modern metropolis teaming with commerce, crowds and traffic you would expect to find in any major city in the world. Walk down an alley, however, and you will find all kinds of oddities and a feel for the underlying currents of the city. Big business is done in Hong Kong, but so is a unique way of life. Whichever you pursue, you will need a good base to survive this hectic city.

Place to stay in Hong Kong come in all types of quality, shapes and prices. There are really cheap youth hostels with lots of “character” and five star luxury hotels that would make an emperor blush. Universally, the accommodations are smaller than you would expect in other parts of the world. You can expect rooms to be smaller than Thailand, but a bit bigger than what you find in Japan for corresponding prices.

Luxury lodgings are primarily located on Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong Island is the central area of Hong Kong, the location you see in pictures of the massive skyline. It is situated on an amazingly thin strip of land between the ocean and mountains. If you are doing business in Hong Kong, this is where you want to stay as most of the major commerce centers are on the island. There are a bevy of five star places offering accommodations. In truth, your choice is limited only by your budget.

If you are looking for cheaper accommodations in Hong Kong, Kowloon and the New territories offer a variety of sources. You can even find hostels on Hong Kong Island. Put another way, accommodations are plentiful regardless of where you are. Hong Kong is a major transportation hub for Asia, so it caters to all budgets.

Finding a place to stay in Hong Kong is a piece of cake. Figure out where you want to stay and then shop around to find the best prices.
